Justice for Zakiya Jendayi!!
Zakiya Jendayi was named trustee and sole beneficiary by her friend of 28 years, Dr. Laura Dean Head.
An Alameda County probate court ruled against her, invalidating the trust, and the Court of Appeals upheld that ruling. Zakiya says the judge made 45 rulings in her case, 35 of them false and others legally erroneous. "The probate court is corrupt," she says. She also says more than 100 other Black families in Alameda County have lost their homes in probate over the past decade.
Zakiya is calling for a full investigation. We stand with her, and we believe probate reform can't wait.
The Oakland Post reported on Oct. 4 that deputies took possession of her home for a court-appointed administrator and that she was arrested at the courthouse.
Her fight is part of a wider push for probate reform led by the National Probate Reform Coalition. This tee supports the "Justice for Zakiya Jendayi" petition. Scan the QR code on the front or back or visit change.org/p/justice-for-zakiya-jendayi.
